Tesco was the star performer in The Grocer Gold Awards dinner, held at the Dorchester in London last night.

Britain's number one retailer was named Britain's Favourite Supermarket, Online Retailer of the Year and The Grocer of the Year.

Julian Hunt, editor of The Grocer, said: "Tesco's success shows why it is the Brazil of grocery retailing."

Other winners were: Tates, Bestway, Morrisons, Sainsbury, Asda and Waitrose (which picked up two awards each), Hovis, McBride, InBev UK and Procter & Gamble.
