A systems error at Tesco.com meant hundreds of customers did not receive their groceries on Sunday night. For two hours the error caused orders to fail at up to 40 Tesco stores.

One customer, whose delivery slot was 9-11pm, said she had no idea the order would not arrive. "The van just did not turn up. No notification. We waited until midnight."

She was given free delivery on Wednesday and a £5 voucher as compensation.

"There was a brief systems error and some orders were cancelled," said a Tesco spokesman. "There was a two-hour loss of orders late on Sunday night and we apologise for that."
