September 15, 1990. Aldi is to build one of Britain's biggest grocery depots on more than half a million sq ft of land in Warwickshire. It has also emerged this week that the German discounter has at least 10 stores already open in the UK several more than recent estimates. The chain's growth is now accelerating at such a rate that plans to break into Merseyside have been brought forward. The first unit at Skelmersdale (The Grocer, August 25) is now expected to be trading by November, a month earlier than planned. The location of the proposed unit, closer to the A5 at Atherstone, has been known for some time. {{COUNTERPOINT }}
