buyer's verdict
ANDREA HARGRAVE, CATEGORY CONTROLLER FOR ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO AT BOOKER
Lancaster Bomber has an attractive amber colour and reasonable head retention. It has a rich hoppy and yeasty aroma with a slight caramel sweetness which is very appealing. The flavour on the palate is smooth and balanced with a slightly sweet quality and bitter finish. It is a smooth, well-made product which will not disappoint. The liquid is very good but the overall marketing package lacks the necessary unique selling point to ensure it national success.
As a brand, Lancaster Bomber is reliant upon its positive historical heritage, which positions it very much in the traditional sector. But Thwaites as a brewer, with its pronounced name on the label, is not well known outside its regional boundaries.
This product should perform reasonably well in its heartland and near to RAF bases.
Score: 16/25.
