Products the Co-op is hoping to shift include canned goods, cleaning products and wine. Offers include 39p for washing powder, 74p for kitchen foil and 9p for tomato soup. Signs have been put up to promote the clearance, although the society has chosen to keep the products in their categories rather than dedicate an aisle to clearance lines.
The clearance was due to run until the end of August, a spokeswoman said. "This is to clear the stock in order to make way for The Co-operative own-brand products as we continue with our rebranding scheme," she added.
The Co-op Group is aiming to have all Somerfield stores rebranded under The Co-operative fascia by the end of the year, despite leaked data earlier this year revealing sales were down in rebranded stores. It has 300 left to convert.
Meanwhile, also up for grabs is Somerfield's former HQ in Bristol, put on the market this week. The 222,840 sq ft building is being marketed by Alder King after the Co-op Group transferred operations to its own Manchester HQ.
