The Co-operative Group has donated £50,000 to the Disasters Emergency Committee for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

The society is also placing collection boxes in all of its stores to allow customers to make their own donations.

”The levels of devastation caused by this earthquake are almost impossible for us to imagine,” said the society’s chief executive, Peter Marks.

“We hope that our donation will go some small way to help alleviate the suffering. I am sure that many of our members and staff will also wish to make their own personal donation to this terrible disaster.”
