Tesco's new 500,000 sq ft purpose-built ambient food distribution centre in West Thurrock, Essex, due to open this autumn, will be one of the busiest and most technically advanced in the UK, capable of handling more than 100,000 cases a year. As well as computerised yard control, loading door allocation and trailer allocation systems, it will feature paperless picking to provide continuous replenishment to all stores within the catchment area. Tibbett & Britten has a £20m a year contract to manage the site which includes secondary distribution service to 100 stores in the south east and East Anglia. {{FOCUS SPECIALS }}
