Morrisons may have lost its availability crown but it had much to celebrate at the awards, walking away with the coveted customer service trophy.

Claiming the top store award in The Grocer 33 survey for 12 of the 50 visits made throughout the year, Morrisons takes the gong for the second year in a row, beating 2003/2004 winner Asda.

Says store operations manager Mark Gunter: "Winning The Grocer Gold Award for customer service is a fantastic achievement and a great compliment to everyone in our stores.

"We work extremely hard to provide the best service to our customers and we are delighted to secure this award for the second year running."

It is all the more of an achievement given the difficulties faced by the business over the past 12 months as the Safeway integration was completed and a successor for CEO Bob Stott was found.

Morrisons' store managers have proved that in today's competitive retail environment they can rise to the challenge and

keep both existing and new ex-Safeway customers happy.
