The Tesco store in Stockport, Cheshire, won the Grocer 33 Top Store award this week last year. We also surveyed the store this week, but it did not win the award this time around.

This store, which operates under Tesco's large format Extra fascia, made headlines over the past year when it was discovered that the outlet had been overbuilt by 20%. Last week, local campaigners convinced the Tame Valley Council to deny Tesco retrospective planning permission for the extra space.

When we spoke with store manager Steven Oliver this week, he said the store was doing well. He noted that its online trade had grown rapidly and the store now uses seven home delivery vehicles, up from four last year.
