Leading grocers will support next month’s Fairtrade Fortnight with the launch of new Fairtrade product lines.
There will be promotions and tastings at Tesco, Sainsbury, Waitrose and in 3,000 stores throughout the co-operative movement from March 6 to 19.
As well as joining the co-operative movement’s offer of 20% off all Fairtrade products, The Midcounties Co-operative will be running a hard-hitting image-led campaign.
Banners and posters will depict the lives of children and communities in
developing countries to urge customers to “make a difference, make a choice, make it now”. The Co-operative Group, along with The Co-operative Bank and Co-operative Insurance, is sponsoring a high profile exhibition of photographs featuring celebrities revealing their Fairtrade habits at the Oxo Tower Wharf in London.
Meanwhile, Tesco will be the first to introduce Fairtrade nuts in the UK when it stocks certified Brazil nuts from March 6 and The Co-operative Group will follow with the launch of the first Fairtrade-marked peanuts.
