The chairman of Unilever, Michael Treschow, has emerged as a front-runner to take over as chairman of Vodafone.

As well as heading the Pot Noodle and Hellman’s maker, Treschow is chairman of telecoms giant Ericsson.

Treschow was instrumental in the appointment of Paul Polman as Unilever’s chief executive in 2008. Polman joined from Nestlé, taking over the reins from Patrick Cescau.
