Uniq is embarking on a restructuring of its UK business following the #86.5m deal to sell its branded spreads division to Dairy Crest. While the company will continue to produce and market Shape for new owner Danone until the new year, said boss Bill Ronald, the remaining businesses in the St Ivel stable such as the Kids' desserts range and Cadbury's desserts, would be brought under the Uniq Prepared Foods umbrella. St Ivel md Chris Thomas will oversee the restructuring which will probably take until the first quarter of next year, said Ronald. "This deal puts us on a far clearer strategic footing," he added. "Our net position is well into the black." Cost savings from more pan-European purchasing and manufacturing efficiencies were also kicking in, he said. Profits from the French operation should stabilise, with NPD particularly in microwaveable meals in trays and functional spreads driving growth. {{NEWS }}
