United Co-op food group has promoted Tim Hurrell to general manager.
Hurrell, whose predecessor Paul Griffiths left last month, had been deputy general manager of the food group since last September when United Norwest Co-op and Yorkshire Co-op merged.
Chief executive Peter Marks said: "Tim has an extensive background in food retailing stretching back over 30 years and I am confident he is qualified for the challenges he and his team will face. The coming year will be tough for food retailers. Tim has a proven track record and I know he is looking forward to working with colleagues to achieve the best results."
