Staff at Waitrose could be in line for an improved bonus this year as the John Lewis Partnership prepares to unveil its full-year results.

The retail group is expected to announce a rise in pre-tax profits from £280m to £315m, with a total bonus pot of around £140m.

Workers at the employee-owned chain could be in line for bonuses worth 14% of salary, worth eight weeks’ salary – up from the 13% pay-out given last year but down on the 20% award given in 2007.

Last week Waitrose announced  the capture of celebrity chefs Delia Smith and Heston Blumenthal to head up a major new advertising push.
