US retail giant Wal-Mart is looking to expand into central and eastern Europe.

Lee Scott, chief executive of Wal-Mart stores, which owns Asda in the UK, said that Poland, Hungary and Russia were all being assessed for expansion.

“We have a portfolio we are working on. It doesn’t matter to us which of these will be first, we want all of them at some point,” he said.

India and further expansion into South America were also a possibility, Scott added.
