Wal-Mart is taking on Tesco's US c-store format Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market with its first new format for 10 years.

The retailer is launching 15,000 sq ft Marketside stores that will focus on a “passion for fresh and delicious food” and “the highest level of customer service”, according to the Financial Times.

Job ads for the first four stores in Fresh & Easy's heartland of Arizona describe Marketside as “the neighbourhood market for busy people with a taste for fresh and delicious food”.
