Steve Jones, who runs the Fountain Shop in Merthyr Tydfil, won the top retail award in the Booker Prize for Excellence.
Jones, who also won the category for best small c-store, impressed the judges on a number of fronts. As well as scooping a total of £1,500 in cash and £1,250 worth of Booker vouchers, Jones and his partner will also be going on a study tour to Las Vegas.
The other retail category winners in the 11th Booker awards, were Nick Cooper of Hudsons in London; Penny Greenwood and Alan Sagar of the Rainhall Drinks Company in Barnoldswick; Mark Bamforth of Warton Street PO in Lytham St Annes; R Sathi of RSS News in Strood; and Shammeel Chaudry of Haunchwood Service Station in Nuneaton.
Booker marketing director Mark Collier said this year's winners had created fully rounded retail offers that met the needs of local shoppers. "They have demonstrated that UK independent retailing is a force to be reckoned with."
