Robert Wiseman Dairies has announced sales volumes in the first three months of the new financial year are 7.7% ahead of last year’s first quarter.

Chairman Alan Wiseman said that, “in addition to the new business started in April with Tesco, we recently commenced deliveries to an additional 111 Iceland/ Booker stores in England and Wales, which will help build volume for our planned depot to service the south east of England.”

The group has said it is confident it will make up the loss in volume from losing the Asda contract over time and it noted it is still in negotiations with the supermarket retailer regarding the appropriate notice period. Asda is now supplied with milk by Arla Foods.

Wiseman will also mention that bulk cream prices have improved a little over recent weeks and that he hopes milk prices can stabilise at current levels. “In order to assist this process, we have guaranteed our milk price until October 2004,” he says.

The comments will be announced at the company’s annual general meeting later this morning,
