Tony Page, Asda's non food trading director, is joining general merchandise retailer Woolworths as MD for commercial and marketing.
Page has worked at Asda since 1994. He has been in his current position for two years. Prior to Asda, he was a senior buyer for Sainsbury.
Woolworths said that Page would join the company at a mutually agreed time and would assume responsibility for the commercial and marketing functions of the Woolworths retail business.
Page said: "This is an exciting opportunity to work with a highly regarded management team. Woolworths is one of the high street's best known brand names, and I look forward to helping develop the offer."
Meanwhile, Asda's parent company Wal-Mart has transferred Bill Long from its US operations to "help out on general merchandise"
at Asda. A spokesman for Asda said that Long's transfer was not connected to Page's departure.
