Aldi plans Australia store openings
SYDNEY: Aldi has long-term plans to open up to 500 new stores in Australia. Michael Kloeters, head of Aldi in Australia, said the company would open 50 new outlets by the end of this year, bringing its estate in the country to 200, with more openings to come in future years. The focus would be on organic growth, he said, adding: "It's really a long-term plan for us, which we think will take 10 to 20-years, rather than taking over someone else or doing something extraordinary." The first Australian Aldi store opened in January 2001.
