Retailer sets sights on Greece

ESSEN, GERMANY: Aldi has begun construction of a distribution centre at Thessaloniki, Greece, with work on a second, in Patra, set to begin soon. The retailer is building the sites as part of a €1.3bn (£908m) investment in the Greek market. The company is expecting to open 50 new stores in the second half of next year. Also in Greece, Metro-owned Makro Cash & Carry is opening two new stores in January, in Kavala and Volos, bringing its Greek portfolio to nine
