PHOENIX, ARIZONA: Safeway has offered its customers financial incentives to cash their economic stimulus cheques in store. The tax rebates were issued by the US administration in an attempt to counter the economic slowdown. Safeway has offered its clubcard customers a 10% discount on groceries when they cash their cheques in store. "Our program provides consumers the freedom to allocate their rebates according to their needs, while enjoying 10% savings if they spend some of it at Safeway," said Safeway chairman, president and CEO Steve Burd. Meanwhile, Supervalu and Kroger have offered cash bonuses for customers buying store gift cards with their cheques.
