Spar Russia set for expansion


Moscow, Russia: Spar Russia has reported retail sales of €292m (£198m) for 2006, up 61% on the previous year. Spar International MD Gordon Campbell said many of the 81 stores in the country were trading in excess of €10,000 (£6,755) per sq metre per year. The group hoped to expand the number of stores to 150 by the end of 2007 and exceed €600m (£407m) in sales. Spar Russia and Spar International also plan to open a number of Spar hypermarkets in Russia early next year.
