Consumption of cheese by occasion

n In the last year there were 5.5 billion individual cheese meals eaten in the home and from the lunchbox
n The consumption of cheese has declined by 1.6% versus the year ending May 2002
n Men (17-64) are heavy consumers of cheese. They consume over 30% of all cheese in comparison to 27.5% of total foods
n Women are particularly low consumers of cheese in the lunchbox (23.3%).
n Children slightly under-consume in relation to total foods
n Cheese is almost as likely to form part of a light meal as it is to be part of a main meal
n Over a third of cheese is consumed as part of an in-home lunch and this is in growth by 2.1%, with the lunchbox also representing over 16% of cheese occasions
n The most popular day of week for cheese consumption is a Monday, with a larger proportion eaten at the start of the week rather than the end
