Brits’ love affair with hot sauce has reached new heights: over the past year, sales of chilli sauces have overtaken Worcester sauce for the first time.

Value sales of chilli sauces reached £19.2m in the 12 months to 22 June, up 9% year on year, while Worcester sauce fell 3.3% to £17.6m [Kantar Worldpanel].

It comes as British shoppers increasingly embrace hotter, chilli-based sauces, encouraged by US food shows such as Man vs Food.

Iconic US hot sauce brand Frank’s Red Hot is now selling “one bottle per minute” in the UK, according to a spokesman.
