Seven out of 10 shoppers want only British eggs used in manufactured food products.
A survey of 1,500 consumers suggested 70% want British eggs used in goods such as quiches and scotch eggs. More than 60% expressed concern about foreign eggs being used as an ingredient, while 90% said packaging should state country of origin for eggs.
British Lion Egg Processors, which commissioned the poll, said many consumers would be shocked to learn that more than a third of eggs used in manufactured food products were imported. “The quality of the ingredients in prepared food has come under intense scrutiny in recent years,” added chairman Ian Jones.
