The Association of Convenience Stores has called on retailers to provide evidence of the impact of national minimum wage hikes on their businesses.

It has launched a survey to probe the impacts of past pay rises in areas such as job creation, staff hours and business investment. The survey asks companies how they would benefit from more certainty around the setting of the wage. The findings will be presented to the Low Pay Commission this year.

“Unpredictable minimum wage rises when other costs of running a business are skyrocketing will only lead to more staff being laid off,” said ACS CEO James Lowman.
