Higher prices have pushed value sales of cooked beef up 13% in the past year.

Sliced, pre-packaged and corned beef sales reached £233m and 26,900 tonnes in the 12 months to August 2009 [Kantar Worldpanel], representing 12% of both value and volume sales in the sliced cooked meat category.

However the increase was due to price rises, with consumption static over the year at 340 million occasions, said Kantar analyst Katie Lee.

Working-age men are the key consumers, eating 33% of all cold meats.
