Costa Coffee owner Whitbread will start rolling out its Costa Express machines across the UK from the start of next month.

The "self-serve coffee bars" will replace the 900 Coffee Nation machines in c-stores and forecourts that Whitbread acquired in March when it bought the company for £59.5m.

The rollout follows a trial at five Esso, Moto and Tesco sites. Whitbread plans to increase the number of machines to 3,000 in the next five years.

The drinks are made with fresh milk and freshly ground coffee.
