The owners of an innovative farm shop in Ipswich and the charismatic founder of the Sandridge Farmhouse bacon brand are the finalists in this year’s Food from the Countryside award sponsored by HGCA with The Grocer. Ipswich couple Joan and Nick Hardingham produce and sell direct to the public 30 different organic crops grown at Alder Carr farm.

Roger Keen from Chippenham cures pigmeat from his own herd which is fed a balanced diet including beer yeast. The winners of the NFU President’s Award are due to be announced at a ceremony in London on February 1.

The other categories are for Conserving Farmland Biodiversity; Farming Ambassador of the Year; Young Farmer of the Year; Farming Woman of the Year; and Best Collaborative Initiative.

A separate award will be presented by NFU president Ben Gill for a special contribution to the industry.
