doritos chips crisps snacks

Take-home sales of savoury snacks have exceeded those of potato crisps for the first time, according to exclusive research for The Grocer.

Brits have spent £947.9m on snacks such as tortillas and savoury biscuits in the past year, not including those bought to be eaten on the go [Kantar Worldpanel 52 w/e 1 February 2015].

That represents growth of 4.1% on volumes up 4.9%, as take-home sales of potato crisps have dipped 1.7% to £923.2m, on volumes down 0.4%.

Crisps have been affected by price cuts in the major retailers as the discounters win growing share of the market, according to KP Snacks branded sales director Andy Riddle.
