Supermarkets are bidding to beat the nation's post-Christmas hangover with a range of offers to entice would-be abstainers back into the wine aisles.
Somerfield is offering 20% off selected lines as well as extra money off on key promotions. Top offers include £1 off a £3.99 bottle of Somerfield South African Chardonnay 2001 and the same markdown on Van Loveren Sauvignon Blanc.
The Co-op is also offering customers deals on a number of wines for the new year, including £1 off Co-op Elephant River Colombard Chardonnay from South Africa (now £2.69) and £1.50 off Chile red Gracia Carmenere Reserve Especial which is down to £4.49.
Sainsbury is also getting in on the action with its own set of offers, including one on three litres of own label Cabernet Merlot (down £4 to £11.99) and on Rosemount Semillon Chardonnay, dropping £1.50 to £4.49.
