Dairy Crest has agreed to increase the price it pays to its direct suppliers for raw milk used in the production of cheese in the UK by an average of 0.8p per litre.

Meanwhile, the Independent newspaper reported that two of Dairy Crest's London milk depots had been targeted at the weekend by milk farmers about the group's refusal to pass on wholesale price rises that could earn them an extra £200 for every tonne of Cheddar cheese sold.

The protests were co-ordinated by the Farmers For Action group, according to the paper.
