There are signs that national milk output is recovering lost ground, but Intervention Board figures to the end of November still show a 44 million litre gap against November quota profile  even allowing for a high butterfat content of 4.16% against a quota base of 3.97%. The cumulative data tell a similar story with less than five months to run. From the currently available figures, there is a 287 million litre gap against quota profile in butterfat adjusted deliveries at 9.4 billion litres. This is equivalent to nearly seven and a half days' production. The effects are being felt most strongly in cheese, as medium and some mature grades are starting to tighten. {{PROVISIONS }}
