The Dairy Council is hoping to dispel some of the negative health perceptions surrounding cheese with a consumer fact sheet.
In the cheese, salt and nutrition fact sheet, it details the nutritional values of cheese and puts its salt content into context by comparing the amount cheese contributes to people’s diets with other foods (4% compared with 18% for bread, for example).
The Dairy Council supported the general principle of reducing salt in diet, said Dr Judith Bryans, director of the Dairy Council.
The fact sheet also gives the calorie, fat and sat fat content of seven of the most commonly eaten cheeses. It is available free from milk.co.uk.
