A ‘Dairy Godmother’ has been secretly delivering milk to homes in Edinburgh in a bid to drum up support for their campaign to get better prices for milk farmers.

Three hundred homes were targeted by NFU Scotland this morning between 6am and 8am.

supermarkets were making considerable profit on every pint of milk or block of cheese they sold while farmers were currently losing money on every litre of milk they produced, said NFU Scotland.

“We don’t think that’s fair and many Scottish consumers share that view,” the organisation said.

NFU Scotland hopes consumers who receive the free milk will contact supermarkets and ask them to ensure those who supply fresh milk, cheese and other dairy products receive a fair price for their milk.

The milk was provided by Yester Farm Dairies, with Scotland’s first minister, Alex Salmond, receiving the final free pint.
