Diageo Great Britain has slammed an ASA ruling against a Smirnoff Ice ad criticised by the Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice.

BCAP challenged whether the ad complied with rules for the advertising of alcohol on TV, under which alcohol must not be promoted to appeal to people under 18.

The adverts, which featured Uri, a chilled-out Eastern European, were considered by the ASA to have strong appeal to the young through their music by Icelandic band Quarashi.

Diageo said it fundamentally disagreed with the ASA and was seeking an independent review.
