Following the announcement last week of the launch of the 2005 generic campaign for Port, the Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto (the Douro and Port Wine Institute of Portugal) has announced that it is also launching a generic campaign for the inaugural wines of the Douro region.
Paulo Pinto, marketing manager for the group, said: “The Douro is an untapped and exciting Old World region. It is not yet recognised for still wines in the United Kingdom, but the potential is certainly there.”
The aim of the campaign, which will result in cohesive investment in the UK market by Douro producers for the first time, is to raise awareness of the Douro region’s wines in the trade.
