Matthew Clark has extended its expertise in wine by acquiring premium Scottish operator Forth Wines. This is its first major acquisition since the company was taken over by the US operator Canandaigua  now renamed Constellation. Forth is a premium wine business with a base in Scotland which is a relatively neat fit for Matthew Clark's operations north of the border. Matthew Clark is already the UK's leading independent wholesaler of wines, beers, ciders and spirits. A spokesman said: "We think Forth is a great operation and with our support can do even better, particularly with regard to expansion south of the border. "There is scope for a good quality fine wine wholesaler with the right level of support and expertise." He said it would run as a standalone business separate from Matthew Clark. Forth is based outside Edinburgh which works well with Matthew Clark Wholesale which has distribution centres in Glasgow and Aberdeen. {{NEWS }}
