Farmed salmon opponents say they distributed up to 15,000 leaflets at 50 UK supermarkets in an 'Action Hour' last week, aimed at influencing customer choice in favour of wild fish.

At least 200 supporters of the Salmon Farm Protest Group distributed leaflets outside branches of all of the major supermarkets detailing reasons not to buy factory-farmed salmon.

Group founder and chairman Bruce Sandison said supporters reported a greater awareness about the implications of buying farmed salmon since the last leafleting exercise in 2002.

He urged customers to ask for wild Alaskan salmon from sustainable fisheries.
