Marks and Spencer took delivery of indoor-grown Jersey Royals this week - three weeks earlier than last year. The company is claiming to be the first major UK retailer this year to be selling them. The 500g prepacks, priced £2.99, are on sale in four stores.
In a promotional stunt, a tractor delivered the potatoes to M&S’s Marble Arch store. They are also on sale in M&S’s Kings Road and Bayswater branches in London and at Rickmansworth. The crop was grown under polytunnels by Alan Moulin. Hugh Mowat, M&S technologist, said: “Jersey Royals have a special place on our shelves. They are one of the most seasonal products that we sell.”
