The Office for National Statistics recorded the first fall in food prices in a decade in August.

Food stores saw both sales and prices drop in August, the ONS said. Volume and value sales fell by 0.2% year on year during the month, while prices were down by 0.1% - the first official year-on-year price drop since December 2004.

Overall, retail sales were up 3.9% year on year in August, driven by demand for household goods.
