Ehrmanns plans to bring Fairtrade wines to more discerning drinkers with the launch of two premium wines from Argentina in September. The Soluna range will consist of a 2005 Malbec, rsp £8.99, and a 2005 organic Malbec, rsp £9.99. The brand will be aimed at independent retailers and organic specialists as well as Waitrose, Tesco Fine Wine Stores and M&S. "We believe Soluna is set to elevate perceptions of the Fairtrade category and raise awareness of the high standards of wines available," said Joy Rushton, Ehrmanns buying manager. "It will also draw further attention to the benefits of Fairtrade to local growers." Ethical trading has become a key issue for UK consumers and is a growing sector. Sales of Fairtrade products soared 46% in 2006 to £290m, according to Mintel, and will be worth £547m by 2011. Tesco and Sainsbury's hold the highest share of sales in the market, at 22.9% and 22.3% respectively.
