There is an air of unease in the bacon markets this week, according to some Dutch traders.

“There’s an element of stalling creeping into the market,” said one. “People are beginning to wonder if things can continue the way they are and panic can easily set in.”

Shortages are still being reported by both the Dutch and the Danes but the industry is starting to speculate whether the Dutch can hold their price.

The Danish sector reports business as steady and with thoughts turning to Christmas, one trader said spot availability might come under pressure.
