Birds Eye has slashed the amount of waste it sends to landfill by more than a fifth in the last year.

The frozen food giant has now promised to cut it to zero by 2014.

The 21% cut follows the signing of a partnership with waste specialists Biffa and includes waste potato and veg either being fed to animals or made into compost.

It has also launched a waste cooking oil collection service, with oil to be processed into biodiesel to power 40 of Biffa’s collection vehicles.
