JJ Food Service’s use of telematics has led to a dramatic reduction In CO2 emissions.

Telematics, the combination of a global positioning system with on-board diagnostics, has slashed idling - the time a vehicle is motionless but with its engine running - by 70%.

The achievement had led to a 2% reduction total carbon emissions from the 11-depot business’s vehicles, it said.

JJ Food Service began using telematics in January and reduced the time vehicles were left idling by 55% within six months - equivalent to 1,449 hours each month.

Miles per gallon increased 15% to more than 9.6 as drivers began completing deliveries more efficiently, it added.

“Our environmental credentials have never looked better. We look forward to partnering with more businesses that share the same values as us.”

Earlier this month, JJ introduced a new eco-packaging range that gives caterers access to a wide range of compostable and biodegradable packaging options.

Solar panels now generate 13% of energy use across two of JJ’s London depots - 444,000KWh a year.

Its warehouses operate in a totally paperless environment following the introduction of digital technology in January, the company added.
