EU agriculture and rural development commissioner Dacian Ciolos this week exchanged documents with Chinese officials as part of a pilot trade scheme, known as 10+10, which will see 10 PGI products from the EU gain access to the Chinese market. In return, 10 protected Chinese foods will go on sale in the EU.
An EU spokesman said it was hoped a final deal would be in place in "the next couple of months".
The 10 Chinese foods coming to the EU are Dongshan white asparagus, Guanxi honey pomelo, Jinxiang garlic, Lixian yams, Longjing tea, Longkou vermicelli, Shaan'xi apples, Zhenjiang vinegar, Pinggu big peaches and Yancheng crayfish.
