Fresh produce trade body Freshfel Europe is to publish details of a European-wide scheme to monitor pesticide residue levels in fruit and vegetables.
Maximum Residue Limits will be harmonised across the EU from 2006, but at present they are monitored by a hotch-potch of national schemes run by companies and trade bodies.
A Freshfel spokesman said: “Following harmonisation, the availability of a common industry standard and scheme for residue monitoring would represent an important asset for the fruit and vegetable sector.”
