Australia is seeking to develop its niche market for tropical fruit in Europe. Backed by the trade organisation Australia Fresh, exporter Jayfresh has acquired the rights to a new mango variety called Tango which has passed successful marketing trials and should be available in the UK this year. Other crops which are expected to make headway are citrus, stone fruit, lychees and grapes. - Provisional exports estimated for the West Australian bred Pink Lady are expected to be up 30% up last year. Between 270,000 and 300,000 12.5kg cartons are expected over a 20 week season. In 2001 this figure was 180,000 cartons. {{M/E FRESH PRODUCE }}
