South African knowhow through Capespan is making a major contribution towards expanding the Egyptian grape industry.
Some of the best-known international names such as Gawie van der Merwe and Piet Karsten have been giving advice on the layout of massive new packhouses in the Upper Nile region. They are also proving expertise to develop some of the latest varieties such as Sugarone, Flame and Crimson Seedless and King Ruby.
The Egyptian season dovetails behind the SA crop and is available from May to August. Capespan, meanwhile, is expecting to treble the volume it sells to reach 430,000 cartons.
